According to district and Jacksonville police records, Ken Camanga, 47, had been working for the district about 10 months when a solid waste manager for the Florida National Guard contacted him in November to inquire about donating used computer equipment, including a total of 57 computer towers and monitors, to schools.


It is against district policy to receive donated used computer equipment for student use. Yet Camanga agreed to accept the equipment and, using his own money, rented a Home Depot flatbed pickup truck, which he drove to Camp Blanding in Starke.


The donated items have a retail value of $13,000, Duval records show.

“According to the FNG representative, you spoke about how much the computer items were going to help the DCPS and made comments to the effect, ‘the children were going to be very excited,’ ” Sonita Young, an assistant superintendent, wrote in a memo to Camanga.


Police said Camanga drove the equipment the same day to a metals recycler, Main Metal Recycling on Beaver Street in Jacksonville, and sold it all for scrap, collecting $318.90, which he kept.


Duval technology officials found out about it in January, when the Florida National Guard asked for written documentation of the donation.


After an investigation by Clay County police and Duval school police, Camanga was arrested Feb. 10 at work in the district’s Bulls Bay Highway offices. Clay County charged him with grand theft.



Later the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office filed charges of dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership, both second-degree felonies.


Camanga pleaded guilty in Clay County Circuit Court in June to a third-degree felony charge of obtaining personal property with intent to defraud.


A judge withheld adjudication and sentenced him to a day in jail, more than $600 in court, prosecution and investigation costs, and he was ordered to surrender his cash bond of $5,000, which was disbursed half to Clay County Schools and half to Duval County Schools. Charges in Duval County were dropped.

The key factors that drives the demand of lithium ion batteries is its fast charging and lower self-discharge rate than other types of rechargeable batteries chiefly in Asia Pacific and Middle East Regions. next area of innovation for lithium ion batteries is grid-scale battery installations needed for energy storage. They have a high energy density than other rechargeable batteries, this means that for their weight or size they can store extra energy than other rechargeable batteries. The main problem with the existing lithium ion batteries is that they are inflammable and the battery gets ruined when discharged completely. The researchers at the Dallas University are working on innovatory lithium-air battery technology, in which oxygen is used as an oxidizer, making battery five times cheaper as well as long-lasting.


“Part of what makes the new Cascadia best-in-class is that we are continually making improvements that benefit our customers,” said Kary Schaefer, general manager, marketing and strategy, Daimler Trucks North America. “Much of that focuses on safety and fuel economy of course, but we’re also making our product more productive and functional for the drivers. In September, at the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show, Freightliner announced the new Cascadia is now available in mid-roof cab configurations for regional overnight haulers and segments such as bulk haul and flat beds. That marked the latest upgrade for a truck that features: a service-friendly electronic vault (eVault), all LED-lit interior and exterior lights, an ergonomic dashboard and display screen designed for the driver, improved fuel economy compared to previous models and seamlessly integrated Detroit Connect and Detroit Assurance 4.0 suite of connected service and safety systems to provide enhanced fleet management, increased uptime and improved safety.


Directives such as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU, announced in 2012, stated that manufacturers of PV systems must take the responsibility of recycling decommissioned systems and ensuring their effective disposal. Thus, stringent regulatory framework governing installation and decommissioning of solar panels is expected to boost the recycling management market in the near future. Furthermore, growing investments to reduce the pressure on landfills and cutting down on carbon footprint have also led to the rise of this market.

Though the solar industry is at a nascent stage, manufacturers of components are taking up the responsibility of recycling seriously. Solar panel manufacturers have continuously focused on delivering improved versions as needs and consumption patterns have undergone drastic changes.
