36 W Devices Feature M3 and M4 Tapped Holes to Assist in PCB Mounting, Offer Low Resistance Down to 50 µΩ

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced the new WSBS8518...M3 and WSBS8518...M4 36 W Power Metal Strip® battery shunt resistors featuring M3 and M4 tapped holes, respectively. With extremely low resistance values down to 50 µΩ in the 8518 case size, the Vishay Dale devices increase accuracy and lower costs compared with Hall Effect current sensing solutions, while their tapped holes aid in PCB mounting, provide extra support against vibration, and offer a location to attach voltage sense pins.

The devices released today feature a proprietary processing technique that produces extremely low resistance values of 50 µΩ, 100 µΩ, 125 µΩ, and 250 µΩ. These low values allow for more accurate data to determine battery charge and discharge, thus helping designers meet specific customer battery management requirements for applications in gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks, as well as electric forklifts, UPS systems, and other heavy industrial applications.

The WSBS8518...M3 and WSBS8518...M4 feature a solid metal manganese-copper alloy resistive element with low TCR (± 20 ppm/°C) and a welded terminal to element connection that allows for up to 848 A of continuous current (value dependent). The resistors offer low inductance values of < 5 nH, low thermal EMF down to < 3 µV/°C, and an operating temperature range of -65 °C to +170 °C. The devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.

Samples and production quantities of the WSBS8518...M3 and WSBS8518...M4 are available now, with a lead time of 10 to 12 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery only is $4.25 per piece in 1,000-piece quantities.

Simeon Hall is one of two teenagers charged in the manslaughter of Roger Trindade, a 15-year-old Winter Park High School student who died in October 2016 after being beaten on Park Avenue. He is being held on no bond in the Orange County Jail.

In early October, Simeon was arrested again after another teenager told police he punched him repeatedly at Ward Park, on Perth Lane in Winter Park.

Circuit Judge Reginald Whitehead set Simeon’s next court hearing for Dec. 13, with a trial tentatively scheduled for mid-January. Simeon has pleaded not guilty.

Tuesday’s hearing lasted only a few minutes and Simeon did not speak except to greet the judge.

The teenager injured in the alleged Perth Lane battery told police the attack was unprovoked. He was sitting at a picnic table at the park Oct. 7 with a few friends when Simeon approached him from behind, he told police.

The first punch knocked the teenager to the ground but Simeon kept punching, hitting the teenager’s head four or five more times, court records show. The teen said he got back up and ran to his car. He managed to get away, but not before Simeon punched him again in the nose, the teenager told police.

Police described his injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

Simeon faces charges of felony battery with great bodily harm and damaging his electronic monitoring equipment.

He and Jesse Sutherland, now both 16, were charged with manslaughter in the death of Roger Trindade, who was taken off life support Oct. 17, 2016, after two days of unconsciousness. Their trials were set for November, but prosecutors decided to move them out of juvenile court and charge them as adults earlier this month — about a year after Roger’s death.
